DRAM

Violin memory appliances provide an ideal platform for provisioning DRAM as a large scale Tier-Ø storage infrastructure. Violin’s solutions feature:

  • Density: 500 GB in 2U or 8TB in a rack
  • Power: Less than 1W per GByte
  • Latency: Platform latency of less than 3 microseconds
  • IOPS: Platform supported IOPS of greater than 3M
  • Reliability: RAID with in-service replacement of modules

The Violin 1010 allows 84 modules with each module supporting 6GB of DRAM. The appliance is provided in three standard configurations, all of which include Host Interfaces and power supplies:

  • V-1010-504G-DRAM: 84 Modules (4 spares)
  • V-1010-252G-DRAM: 42 Modules (2 spares)
  • V-1010-126G-DRAM: 21 Modules (1 spare)

Violin 1010 with DRAM is the industry’s highest performing I/O system:

  • IOPS: The Violin 1010 appliance is capable of over 3M random or sequential IOPS. With one Linux server, over 1 Million IOPS can be achieved, the equivalent of 3000 15K hard drives.
  • Latency: Violin 1010 supports 3 microseconds latency, over 1000 times faster than traditional disk storage and 100 times faster than most Flash SSDs. The Linux server adds about 10 microseconds to drive a block device interface.
  • Bandwidth: Violin 1010 supports 1.7 GByte/sec in a 2U form factor--a much higher bandwidth per rack unit than other storage systems.
